Top Of The TBR: July 6th

I stumbled across this thanks to Literary Elephant.  I love this idea and I’m jumping on board!!  Here is her description of Top Of The TBR…

But what is Top of the TBR? Good question. It’s a weekly post that will showcase any new books I’ve added to my Goodreads TBR recently, with a short explanation of why each title caught my interest. I’ll aim for 5-10 books per post; in weeks that I’ve added more than that, I’ll hold some back, and in weeks that I don’t have enough, I’ll include titles I haven’t discussed yet. Each title will be linked back to its Goodreads page for anyone interested in exploring further, as I’m not a fan of copy/pasting synopses. Anyone who wants to take part in this series with me is absolutely welcome! Please link back to any of my Top of the TBR posts so I can see what you’re reading!

Personally, my Goodreads TBR is filled with books that I have entered giveaways for.  My TRUE TBR list is on Amazon.  It’s horrible…they send me alerts when books on that list are on sale, haha.  I’ve also been lucky enough to score quite a few on my list for free too!  Yes, I check it every day.  I won’t disclose how many physical books I own that I haven’t read yet and I certainly won’t disclose the amount I have on my Kindle!  I will probably focus on the last 3 books I’ve added to my TBR list.  I will link each one back to Goodreads as well!  Here goes nothing…

TheSecretary

How I found it: Shalini’s Book Reviews

Why I added it: When someone writes a review and says they got goosebumps reading it, my interest is peaked.  The more and more I read the above review, the more and more I am craving this book!

Priority: Low. It is not released in the US yet and I cannot find a date for release.  I will keep it on my list and wait until I see it’s available, but I’m in no rush. I’m used to falling in lust with books that get released in the UK waaaaay before the US, I’m used to it now!

Goodreads

DearWife

How I found it: Facebook advertisement

Why I added it: The cover got me with that tag line!  When I clicked on the link and it said how far will a woman go to escape a person she once loved…I’m in!

Priority: Medium.  This book was just released on June 25th and I have a lot on my plate I still have to read.  Once the summer is over (I’m a huge seasonal reader) and autumn hits, this is a book that will on top of my list!

Goodreads

StolenThings

How I found it: Another Facebook advertisement!

Why I added it:  The description in the ad sucked me in.

Priority: Low.  This will be released on August 20th.  That’s well over a month away.  It’s also priced a little high (for me) for Kindle and hard copy.  I may go to the library for this one.  Either way, it still looks like a good read!

What books are on top of your TBR list???  Maybe I need to add them to mine! 🙂

First Line Fridays: July 5th #Book #ReadMe #FirstLine #Novel #Bibliophile #BookWorm

As always First Line Friday comes courtesy of Hoarding Books Blog.  I discovered this magic thanks to Crystal at Must Love Reviews.  This week I am featuring Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.  Here’s the first line…

EleanorOliphant

When people ask me what I do–taxi drivers, dental hygienists–I tell them I work in an office.

What book are you reading this week?  Drop me a link to your First Reads Friday blog post and I’ll swing by!  Happy Friday!

Thursday Quotables: May 30th #bookquotes

Welcome to Thursday Quotables.  Books Kat Likes has joined in on the weekly fun and came up with this great description of what this is…

This feature is the place to highlight a great quote, line, or passage discovered during your reading each week. Whether it’s something funny, startling, gut-wrenching, or just really beautifully written, Thursday Quotables is where my favorite lines will be, and you’re invited to join in! Created by Lisa, over at Bookshelf Fantasies.

You should join in too!  Leave the link to your Thursday Quotable post below and I will make sure to check it out!!

This week I have chosen a quote from the book I’m currently reading…

Mine

Never let them see you sweat, dear, or they’ll think they have the power. I’ve heard that for as long as I can remember. And honestly, it does come in handy sometimes, in business.

I really liked that quote, it reminds me to always keep my composure and act like everything is a ok.  What quote has stuck out to you this week??

Back At The Library #hendersonlibraries #friendsofthelibrary #bibliophile

Well, today was the day…I walked back in to my local library, paid my embarrassingly high fine, and walked out WITHOUT a book for myself!  The restraint is REAL today guys!

Canvas

Because my fine was so high I opted to get this special edition tote bag because, well, I stayed up way too late last night finishing up Dark Places by Gillian Flynn.  This bag is totally appropriate.  Plus, I ended up checking out 9 books (5 for my daughter and 4 for my son).  Do you think I was going to lug those books around in my arms?  Psh!  Now, they have a place to stay when they’re at home so we don’t lose any…

I bet you’re wondering how I walked out with no book in my possession…well, wait until you see the stack of books I own that I want to get through this summer.  The real reason I finally went down was to start my OverDrive account!  I already have 4 books on hold once I got home with tips from my local librarian.  Do you use any ebook service through your local library??  Tell me all about it, I’m all ears!  I cannot wait until my first hold comes out and I can really test this out!

Sunday Funday! Bestselling Books The Year You Were Born!

It’s Sunday.  Time to relax and take a break from reading by doing something reading related, haha.  I recently came across this website on Facebook and I thought this was the COOLEST thing ever!

There’s an article that Mental Floss did recently called What Was the Bestselling Book the Year You Were Born? Wordery’s Online Tool Tells You and they tell you exactly that!

Simply click on the link above (it will open in a new window) and type in your age!  Then it will tell you what the bestselling book was that year!  I was born in 1984 and my book is…

AquitaineProgression

The Aquitaine Progression by Robert Ludlum.  Here’s the synopsis…

It begins in Geneva. There, American lawyer Joel Converse meets a man he hasn’t seen in twenty years, a covert operative who dies violently at his feet, whispering words that hand Converse a staggering legacy of death: ‘The generals…they’re back…Aquitaine!’

Suddenly Converse is running for his life, alone with the world’s most shattering secret. Pursued by anonymous executioners to the darkest corners of Europe, he is forced to play a game of survival by blood rules he thought he’d long left behind. And only Converse, and the woman he once loved and lost, can wrest the world from the iron grasp of Aquitaine…

I love thrillers and this spent 12 weeks as a New York Times Bestseller.  I plan on reading this book sometime in the near future, I just think it would be a cool thing to do!  What book was the bestseller the year you were born??

Versatile Blogger Award!

I was tagged for the Versatile Blogger Award and I was shocked and excited when this happened!!  Thank you to The Literary Elephant for the nomination!!  I am still in shock!  Go follow her now and check out HER seven facts…she has a CRAZY nail polish collection!  Here goes nothing…

Award Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Link to the blog of the person who nominated you
  • Share 7 facts about yourself
  • Nominate 15 more bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award

Seven Facts About Me:

  1. The first place I drove alone when I got my driver’s licence at 16 was to McDonald’s…a whopping 1 mile away from my house.  Mom was a nervous wreck!
  2. When I was in high school I would sing the National Anthem before local car races at 3 different racetracks, one time even included before a Monster Jam event!
  3. I have 2 Master’s Degrees…one in Special Education and one in Educational Administration.
  4. I post about books AND food on my Instagram account.  I love to eat!  If you ask me if I want to go out to eat at a restaurant I have ever been to before I am there before you finish asking the question!  I love it!
  5. I never re-read books.  I can’t do it.  I already know what happened and it takes all the enjoyment out of it for me.  Now I have read a book twice thinking it sounded similar only to realize at the end I had read it YEARS ago, haha.
  6. I love to sew.  I make quilts and I have started to dabble into making my own clothes.  Currently my best friend has taken over my sewing room (yes, I have my own dedicated sewing room) as she waits for her new house to be built so I’m taking a little time off from sewing for right now!
  7. We just bought our first travel trailer and are so excited to travel around the USA with our kids!  Right now we’re sticking to places close by Southern Nevada, Southern Utah, Southern California, Arizona so if you know of any awesome campgrounds or places to visit I’m all ears!

Busy, busy, busy!

WOW!  The classes I was taking ended up sucking me in and taking me away from the fun things I like to…like read and then write about it!  With this school year wrapping up and winding down I am looking forward to endless days of reading….haha, I have kids, that won’t happen either!  In all seriousness, my classes are OVER and I’m ready to take back some me time!! WOO HOO!!

January Wrap Up!

HAPPY SUPERBOWL SUNDAY!!

What a better day to recap January than on the day that I hope the team who represents my childhood roots wins.  Care to take a guess at which one that would be?  Moving on now…haha…my total book count for January was 6 books!!  Not bad, I am 2 books ahead of schedule to complete my Goodreads Challenge of 52 books this year!  I also was able to use 5 of these books on my 2019 Popsugar Reading Challenge!  Whoop, whoop!  Now, let’s recap the 6 I read!

Not bad, I thoroughly enjoyed 4 out of the 6 books I read, I will take it!  Here is hoping I can on this pace (or increase it) for February!  Any of these reads on your TBR?

Stacking The Shelves: February 2nd

Well…I failed at my attempt of not buying/obtaining any books this week…haha. Here’s my usual blurb about it all…I stumbled across Stocking The Shelves on Jill’s Book Blog (check it out). This is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.  Here’s what they say about it…

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

So, in theory I only “boughtONE book…but, I added three to my shelf!  *sigh*  I have soooooo many books, but, I can’t leave them be all alone!  All the books I got this week I got via Kindle, so they are all ebooks!  Here we go….

Educated

Educated by Tara Westover

This one I got because I apparently had over $12 in credit on Great On Kindle reads that was expiring so I **HAD** to get a book!  Now I have over $10 in credit and I need some ideas on what to get next so help me out with my next one!  I have seen this all over social media and this looks like a great read, I am super excited!

SpareRoom

Spare Room by Dreda Say Mitchell

This one has been all over my feed on WordPress and the reviews have been jaw dropping!  It was only 99 cents for the Kindle, how could I pass that up?!?!

ThePerfectChild

The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry

This is my pick for the month through Amazon First Reads (so it was free)!  It was the only book that stuck out to me.  It is billed as a domestic suspense novel and you know I love thrilling, suspenseful novels!

I am going to attempt to not get any new books this upcoming week…we will see if I can resist the power of the books I come across…probably not, I’m not that strong willed, hahahahaha.  What did you add to your shelves this week?

Top Ten Tuesday: January 29th

Another TTT courtesy of That Artsy Reader Girl!  This week’s topic is…

The Ten Most Recent Additions To My To-Read List

Oh.  Boy.  Let me tell you what I do…I see a book I like and I add it to my Amazon wish list.  I have decided that from now on I always add the Kindle version of books to this list only.  Why?  Amazon alerts me when books on this list go on sale and I can always sort my list out by price from low to high.  When a book I have been eyeing goes on sale at a price I can’t say no to (usually $2.99 is the highest I like to go for Kindle ebooks) I jump on the opportunity and buy it.  Now, I also use this list as my go to for when I buy physical books as well.  If I buy it as a physical copy (off Amazon) I just delete it off my wish list.

Without further ado…here is my list!  If you see a book on here that is an absolute must-read, please, be a bad influence and let me know so I buy it immediately!!

The Promise by Teresa Driscoll

After the mind blowing twisting and turning of I Am Watching You, I *had* to add her 2 other novels to my list…this one comes out soon, February 7th to be exact!

The Friend by Teresa Driscoll

See above, ha.  But this novel is already out!!!

Day Of The Accident by Nuala Ellwood

I saw this one here (Book Review – Day of the Accident by Nuala Ellwood #BookBlogger #AmReading) and after reading the review how can you NOT put this on your wish list?!?!

What’s Great About Georgia? (Our Great States) by Andrea Wang

This was added to my list so I could remember a series about the 50 states!  My son showed an interest in wanting to read books about them so after a quick search I found the Our Great States collection and added it to my list so I would not forget it!

Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott with Mikki Daughtry & Tobias Iaconis

I am a sucker for reading a book and then watching a movie and folks…this is being brought to the big screen in 2019!!!

No Exit by Taylor Adams

This book has been EVERYWHERE: Facebook, Bookstagram, you name it, I have seen it there.  For a book to have this much presence over social media I need to read it for myself!

I Remember You: A Ghost Story by Yrsa Sigurdardottir

In a Facebook reading group I am in someone posted all about this one…it sounds like a read you cannot read in a room by yourself at night…I LOVE THE SOUNDS OF THAT!

Stay Up With Hugo Best by Erin Somers

After doing a Goodreads Monday feature on this (click the title to see) it flew on to my Wish List!

Forget You Know Me by Jessica Strawser

A book coming out February 5th…I know you have seen the buzz about it.

The Liar’s Room by Simon Lelic

When a book has the catchphrase of “Two liars.  One room.  No way out,” you bet I am going to want to find out what happens!

Sorry for no pictures this week but I feel like sometimes they just clog the post up!  Let me know what you think about the last 10 books I have added to my Wish List and if you have any recommendations based off of them!
