Ten Signs You’re A Book Lover

Let me rack my brain and see what I can come up with…

  1. You have books hidden EVERYWHERE…random places, in your car, at work, etc etc.
  2. You pick up a book instead of putting that head down on your pillow…staying up past bedtime just because you have to read!!
  3. You get emotionally invested in fictional characters (mourn for them, lust for them, etc).
  4. You buy more books…even when you have a huge stack of books on your Kindle or bookshelf that you haven’t read yet!
  5. You’re constantly browsing for new books…
  6. You know all the ins & outs of your local library.
  7. You change plans you have because you can’t put a book you’re reading down…(ex. cancel dinner plans with friends to stay in)
  8. You see furniture and think, “Wow, that would make for a great reading chair…that would look great in a book nook!”
  9. A gift card to your favorite book shelf is the ultimate gift for you!
  10. You find yourself distracted by browsing book blogs seeing what everyone else is reading!!!

What are some signs you think that show you’re a book lover??

Bookish Discoveries I Made In 2019

I had to ponder this one for a little bit…a few I thought I discovered last year, but really it was in 2018.  I didn’t really ramp up my reading game until 2019 so…I think I’m going to include them anyway!!

Netgalley

Netgalley.  Oh boy…this site gets me in TROUBLE.  I have vowed to read and review ALL the books I have from 2019 before I request a single book this year…will I be able to do it?  Who knows…if I got off here and on my Kindle, maybe!  If you are unsure what Netgalley is, it is a site where you can get your hands on advance copies of books in exchange for leaving for honest review.  It is pretty neat!  Just watch how many books you request, they stack up quick!

Wordpress.png

WordPress.  Now, wait a minute.  I started to blog on WordPress in 2018 on my friend’s site Book In The Bag.  It was in 2019 I decided to start *MY* blog and when I did that, I discovered the world of book bloggers and well…you all keep my TBR list stacked.  Haha.  It is crazy how HUGE the book blogging world is and that has spread across ALL of my social media!!  Thank YOU for showing me the light!  😉

FirstReads

Amazon First Reads.  Who knew how much EXTRA a Prime membership could get you as a reader?!  One free book every month (this month we get TWO) AND our own special library!!  It doesn’t get better than that!  What awesome perks!

I’m a little boring with this…that’s pretty much all I can think of.  I am sure when I go through and read all of your Top Tuesday posts I’ll be like OOOOOOO YEAH and duuuuuuuuuuh.  I can’t wait to read all of yours!  What bookish things did you discover last year?  Happy Tuesday!

Characters I’d Like To Switch Places With

Ooooh, this is a tough one.  Let’s see…what books would I love to be a part of…after careful consideration there’s only one character I would love to become…

Jessica Reel

TheHit.jpg

Jessica Reel is part of the Will Robie series by David Baldacci.  They both work for the same secret agency and we first meet them when Robie is supposed to kill her.  Spoiler alert, he doesn’t, they team up and actually make a good team.  I would love to go around, spying, and saving the world from dangerous people.  She sounds fun and dangerous…and provided my outcome ends up like hers, I’m ok with switching places with her!  I would love to walk on the dangerous, wild side for a day or two, especially if I had Robie to protect me too!

What character from a book would you like to switch places with?

Places Mentioned In Books That I’d Like To Visit

There is only ONE book that stands out in my mind which highlights a place I have actually looked into visiting.  This book made this place sound so magical, I just HAVE to go here…and hopefully one day I will!

The Book…

The Place…

Lapland.jpg

Lapland

Lapland is a place in Finland which boasts itself as the place where Santa lives.  The celebrate Christmas like no other place and you can catch the Northern Lights here.  They went here in the book and everything from the hotel to the activities they did just made me want to be here with them, enjoying everything!  Polar nights, snowmobiling, Santa’s Village, reindeer sleigh rides, snowcastle buildings, reindeer races (there are over 200,000 reindeer here), and the Santa Claus post office; it sounds like a truly magical place and one that I hope to cross off my bucket list one day.  Have you heard of Lapland??

Books I LOVED with Fewer than 2,000 Ratings on Goodreads

*runs to Goodreads* I went through my entire “read” pile and looked at each book I rated 5 stars.  If they had less than 2,000 ratings as of Monday, February 18th, they made this list!  I started each book from the most ratings under 2,000 to the book with the least!  Only 5 made the cut so without further ado…

WynnInDoubt

Wynn In Doubt by Emily Hemmer 1,667 ratings (4.0 star rating) : Women’s Lit, Chick Lit, Contemporary, Mystery

Elephant

The Elephant In The Room by Tommy Tomlinson 379 ratings (4.43 star rating) : Memoir

lifewewanted

The Life We Wanted by Kelsey Kingsley 316 ratings (4.56 star rating) : Romance (but not mushy, gushy-contemporary)

TheChristmasWish

The Christmas Wish by Tilly Tennant 282 ratings (4.13 star rating) : Holiday Cheesy Romance

toughtruths

Tough Truths by Deirdre Maloney 35 ratings (4.0 star rating) : Business

Each link will take you to each books’ Goodreads page.  I opted to go the visual route this week and show you each cover as opposed to overloading you with text and giving each description.  Bottom line is…I LOVED ALL OF THESE BOOKS!  They deserve MORE love!  Honestly, I am most surprised that The Christmas Wish had as few reviews as it did, I would have assumed that book would have had a lot more.  I know it was featured on Netgalley so I’m not too sure why it has such few reviews.  What book that you’ve read has surprised you the most with having little ratings on Goodreads?

New To Me Authors I Read In 2018

2018 is the year I really took back reading as a hobby so I have a LOT of new to me authors I read over the course of a year!  I suppose I did not realize how many new favorites I acquired over the year until I sat down to do this list!  I am listing these authors in no particular order, just the way they pop into my head!  Please note, I did not include any authors that had a debut novel in 2018 as they would be new to everyone, I only included authors with published works in 2017 or earlier!  Enjoy!

1. Elin Hilderbrand

I was first introduced to Elin Hilderbrand when a colleague gave me The Perfect Couple to read.  I.  Was.  Hooked.  Since then I have read Winter In Paradise and bought all of her Winter Street series books I plan on binge reading.  I also have another book coming in the mail too.  What can I say?  I’m into her!

2. David Baldacci

My father LOVES Baldacci.  He has read almost every single one of his books and has kept them all.  I started off by reading his book The Hit and I couldn’t stop.  I am in love with Will Robie and this series.  I just finished reading the first book in the series, nothing like reading them out of order or anything, ha.  I hope to make a big dent in his books in 2019, especially with the box of 25 or so my dad lent me!

3. Kerry Anne King

I first learned of Kerry Anne King thanks to Amazon First Reads.  I read her book Whisper Me This and was blown away.  I borrowed I Wish You Happy from the Kindle Owner’s Lending Library and just recently her first book, Closer Home, went on sale on the Kindle so I snatched it up!

4. Ruth Ware

From the same colleague who introduced me to Hilderbrand, I learned of Ruth Ware.  She learned I was going on a cruise so she said I had to read The Woman In Cabin 10.  Don’t worry, I had no such experiences like this book on my cruise this past summer!  I picked up The Lying Game from a thrift store for 97 cents (what a find)!! I can’t wait to read more from her!

5. Jenny Han

Oh Netflix, you were the ones who turned me on to Jenny Han.  I *LOVE* to read a book and then watch the movie it was based off of so when I heard about To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before I had to read it.  Mistake.  As soon as I read that I had bought the next 2 in the series and finished them up within 2 days.  All of her other books are on my TBR pile!  PS, I loved the book so much I refuse to watch the movie!

6. Iris Johansen

I was on eBay when I stumbled across a book by Iris Johansen called Killer Dreams.  LOVED IT!  Now I am collecting all of her Eve Duncan books, slowly but surely, and can’t wait to read more from her!  When I mentioned I was looking for books by her my grandmother replied with, “Oh, she’s good!”  Well thanks for not letting me sooner Gram!

7. Kylie Brant

I learned of Kylie Brant thanks to Amazon First Reads and her book Pretty Girls Dancing.  Every month I make sure to get my free book and eventually I get around to reading them.  I wish I read it as soon as I bought it as this was a page turner.  I cannot wait to read more from her!

8. Sarah Pekkanen

I first read Sarah Pekkanen when I read my very first advance reader copy of The Wife Between Us.  I know it was a joint effort with Greer Hendricks but what I did not realize until just recently is that Pekkanen has written novels before!  I loved this story and loved what came from her mind, I can’t wait to read more!

9. Fiona Barton

I learned of Fiona Barton thanks to Netgalley and the advance copy I got of The Suspect.  I love thrillers and I love an author who can write an amazing one.  I will be checking out her previous work for sure.

10. Lisa Wingate

Another colleague turned me on to Lisa Wingate when she lent me Before We Were Yours.  The book made me emotional and every now and then I love my heartstrings to be pulled and tugged at when I read.  She has a beautiful way with words!

I am amazed with all of the new authors I was exposed to in 2018 and I am excited to see who I will discover in 2019!  Although I already have a lot of works by these authors in my current TBR pile, I will be sure to spice things up with new authors too!  Any of these your favorite authors as well?  Did you discover any of these authors in 2018 as I did too?  Thanks for visiting!
