Book Review: Never Have I Ever @JoshilynJackson @wmmorrowbooks #4stars #FastRead #Suspense #Thriller #BookWorm #ReadMe

I love a solid thriller and many of you raved about this book.  I got it on my Libby app through my local library!!

NeverHaveIEver

Amy is living her best life in suburbia.  She has her best friend Charlotte, and other friends in her neighborhood.  This neighborhood is pretty chummy with each other; everyone knows everybody and they even have a book club with the women.  One day, a woman who is air bnbing a home in their neighborhood decides to drop in to the book club…

…the woman straight up overtakes the whole thing.  She ends up playing the game, Never Have I Ever where they all try to top each other with the most outlandish things they’ve done.  Amy gets uneasy with her and makes it her mission to find out what is going on.

Oh, hang on a moment…I almost forgot…Amy killed someone.  Did your jaw just drop?  Did I throw you for a loop?  Oh yes, it’s not a secret, we’re told this in the beginning…she was young and drunk.  Could Amy’s murder and this new neighbor be related?  The book does do flashbacks to that night and intertwines it with the present.

This book had a lot of crazy twists.  It also had its moment that was a little disturbing.   It kinda came out of nowhere.  It was shocking.  It all happens so fast and just bam, in your face.  Lovely, lovely, sneaky, disturbing twist!

4 star read!  You can’t go wrong picking this book up.  I think I’m starting to become jaded with all these thrillers because I wasn’t 100% a fan of the end…and for no reason other than, ugh, a secret was kept.  Haha…I mean, ok, one one hand I’m happy with how it ended, but on the other I’m like OH COME ON!!!!  I suppose if it was written with a secret coming out I’d probably be like, now why did that have to happen, come on.  Haha…I suppose I can’t win with this one…still a great read nonetheless!!!!

Goodreads Summary

New York Times bestselling author Joshilyn Jackson–“an admired writer who deserves to be a household name” (Kirkus Reviews)–displays her masterful talent in this dark and deliciously addictive tale of domestic suspense.

In this game, even winning can be deadly…

Amy Whey is proud of her ordinary life and the simple pleasures that come with it–teaching diving lessons, baking cookies for new neighbors, helping her best friend, Charlotte, run their local book club. Her greatest joy is her family: her devoted professor husband, her spirited fifteen-year-old stepdaughter, her adorable infant son. And, of course, the steadfast and supportive Charlotte. But Amy’s sweet, uncomplicated life begins to unravel when the mysterious and alluring Angelica Roux arrives on her doorstep one book club night.

Sultry and magnetic, Roux beguiles the group with her feral charm. She keeps the wine flowing and lures them into a game of spilling secrets. Everyone thinks it’s naughty, harmless fun. Only Amy knows better. Something wicked has come her way–a she-devil in a pricey red sports car who seems to know the terrible truth about who she is and what she once did.

When they’re alone, Roux tells her that if she doesn’t give her what she asks for, what she deserves, she’s going to make Amy pay for her sins. One way or another.

To protect herself and her family and save the life she’s built, Amy must beat the devil at her own clever game, matching wits with Roux in an escalating war of hidden pasts and unearthed secrets. Amy knows the consequences if she can’t beat Roux. What terrifies her is everything she could lose if she wins.

A diabolically entertaining tale of betrayal, deception, temptation, and love filled with dark twists leavened by Joshilyn Jackson’s trademark humor, Never Have I Ever explores what happens when the transgressions of our past come back with a vengeance.
