Book Review: I Will Make You Pay @TeresaDriscoll @AmazonPub #IWillMakeYouPay #Mystery #5stars #MustRead #Thriller #BookWorm

Fun fact: Teresa Driscoll is one of my go-to, auto buy no matter what authors.  I was ecstatic to get this advance reader copy on Netgalley!!

IWillMakeYouPay

Wednesday.  The horror day.  The only day of the week when bad things happen.  Alice is a journalist who starts to have crazy, stalkerish things happen to her on Wednesdays.  Eventually the crazy stalking ramps up and we find ourselves in the midst of of a great thrilling read.

I’m a huge Teresa Driscoll fan.  I loved how DI Melanie Sanders and investigator Matthew Hill appear in her latest novel as well.  Don’t worry, you do not have to have read any of her other books, but you should if you haven’t!  I love it when characters I enjoy and become familiar with make their rounds in other novels!!

Back to the book.  Alice’s past history is a little crazy.  I don’t want to say too much because it unfolds itself in the book and well, I don’t want you to read the book saying, “What is she talking about, she said this, but I don’t see it…” and then boom, I kinda ruined a pivotal part of the book.  Haha.

Alice’s boyfriend hires Matthew Hill to take on the case.  I mean, the police can only do so much and with every Wednesday things get a little more intense.  Hill essentially gets hired to do all of his investigating on Wednesdays when he acts as Alice’s bodyguard to keep her safe those days.  Alice ends up to start to do her own digging…oh yes, it’s a doozy!!

5 stars.  Sure, I may be partial to Driscoll, but I would also be the first to be disappointed if this novel did not hold up to her others and honestly…I think this may be her best to date!!  I thought I had it figured out, I really did…I didn’t.  It was so creatively done, just an absolutely well written, well done thrilling mystery.  It will be hard to top this one for me this year with any other thrillers out there, that’s for sure!!

Book Review: American Royals @katharinemcgee @randomhouse @penguinrandom #Addictive #BestNewSeries #Unputdownable #BookWorm #Bibliophile #5stars

You have all been RAVING over this book with your fancy (lucky) advanced reader copy books.  After a few reviews I requested (months ago) that my library pre-order this one.  To my library patrons, you’re welcome ;).

AmericanRoyals

WARNING: this is a series.

What that means is, there’s another book coming out.  So that means it ends on a, “NOOOOOOOOOOO, WTF,” note.  I’m not mad about it.  This is my new obsession.  Think Gossip Girl meets Princess Diaries…it’s everything I could ever hope for and more.

This book tells us the tale if America had a royal family.  At the beginning I found myself reading the book with a British accent, haha.  It took me a few pages to get that out of my head.  I’m going to do something I rarely do and give you the Goodreads blurb for this book…

When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne.

As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America’s first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling. Nobody cares about the spare except when she’s breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn’t care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her. And then there’s Samantha’s twin, Prince Jefferson. If he’d been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.

Did I mention how obsessed I am with this book?  If I could I would pre-order book 2 NOW.  We have 5 points of view going on in this book…Beatrice (who will become Queen as she is first in line), Samantha (the spare), Nina (just a regular girl & Sam’s best friend), Jefferson (the spare’s twin brother), and Daphne (%#^^%%#*&%#%#, no other way to describe that b haha).

It is a fast paced read.  Everything intertwined just lovely.  I thought I was reading a true life story at times.  Now, heads up, I LOVE the Royals so this was right up my alley.  I’m also a huge an of young adult novels, which I would categorize this as.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see this optioned as a series.  I only hope that McGee sticks with this series for a long haul!  I cannot get enough!  5 stars from me!

Phoebe Miller isn’t sure when the rusty car started showing up in the cul-de-sac she calls home, or why its driver would be spying on her. What could be interesting about an unhappy housewife who drowns her sorrows in ice cream and wine and barely leaves her house?

Only one knows why.

When a new family moves in across the street–the exuberant Vicki, who just might become the gossipy best friend Phoebe’s always wanted, and her handsome college-bound son, Jake, who offers companionship of a different variety–Phoebe finds her dull routine infused with the excitement she’s been missing. But with her head turned she’s no longer focused on the woman in the car. And she really should be…

This book has me thinking all kinds of crazy things about my neighbors…haha…what are you reading today?

Book Review: Surfside Sisters @nancy_thayer @randomhouse @penguinrandom #Nantucket #Friends #BookWorm #ReadMe

This book looked like a lot of summer fun.  Thankfully my public library had this available to loan!

SurfsideSisters

Here we have two once inseparable friends turn into no more than mere acquaintances.  The story is told in the present day where our main character, Keely, lets us in on past stories so we can see how her and her best friend once were and how they fell apart.

Keely becomes a big time writer and moves to the city.  It’s the dream that her and her best friend.  It’s everything she wanted…so why is she so lonely?  When her father unexpectedly passes away she finds herself back in her hometown of Nantucket taking care of her mother…and maybe even dabbles in some love.

I loved everything about this story.  It had a broken friendship, strong family story, and even a little bit of romance.  The writing was superb and I felt at the end even Keely learned a small life lesson from her mother.

It is a fast paced read.  I managed to devour this across two days.  It pulls you in immediately because you just have to find out what went wrong between the besties.  It alternates between present and past perfectly and brings up to a lovely ending where Thayer ties everything into the perfect bow.

I’m giving this 5 stars because I can and I LOVED it!  It is a perfect chick lit read for anytime of the year really…don’t let the summery cover fool you!  If you enjoy chick lit novels, you will absolutely adore this one!

Book Review: Miracle Creek @AngieKimWriter @fsgbooks @SarahCrichtonBK #BookWorm #Bibliophile #Family #Drama #Mystery

Here’s yet another book a lot of you couldn’t stop raving about.  Shout out to my local library for having it!

MiracleCreek

Angie Kim has knocked it out of the park with this one.  The characters are so vividly described, even with their accents and tone of voice.  There was never a time in this book where I was unsure of a character or the description of the setting.  Kim tops it all off with having this mind boggling mystery of who blew up the submarine.

I didn’t spoil anything for you.  We know in the beginning that the Miracle Submarine, a hyperbaric chamber, has been blown up by an arsonist and two people die.  The question is, who did it.  So many people are protecting so many people…everyone is a suspect.

The owners moved here for a better life for their child.  There are many parents who take their children into the submarine simply because they want a better quality of life for them.  There is even a man doing treatment for infertility because he wants a better life with his wife.  How far would you go to protect your family and give them a better life?  This book gives us some insight on that!

It is a fast paced mystery that has surprises throughout.  The amount of things going on with everyone involved and how they intertwine was so creatively done.  I honestly thought I had it begged with who did it, but I didn’t…ugh…so close!!!  This one will have you turning the pages past your bedtime because you’ll want to know more and more.  We get tempted every chapter with just a little more information until it all comes out in the end.

An absolute worthy 5 star read.  This heart-wrenching, emotional read is filled with poignant characters you’ll either love or hate.  As a mother this book was tough to read at times.  A child does die in the accident and Kim isn’t shy with describing the death.  This is such an evoking read, you would be foolish not to get your hands on this.
