I live by that mantra…hope for the best, prepare for the worst.  I always make sure I have a back up plan in case of a crisis, ESPECIALLY at work.  Dealing with students with severe disabilities changes the way your mind thinks…it’s always, if this happens, here’s the plan…and thankfully we haven’t had too many times where worse case scenario has happened!  At least we’re equipped if it does.  What do you think of the quote?

Book Review: Class Mom @lauriemgelman @MacMillanUSA @HenryHolt #Hysterical #MomsWhoRead #Funny #Novel #SpiritAnimal

I have seen some reviews of Class Mom floating around so I requested it from my local library!  In case you were wondering I requested they order the next book in this series, You’ve Been Volunteered and I am eagerly waiting its arrival!

ClassMomMINE.jpg

Jen Dixon is a married housewife with a little boy in kindergarten and two girls in college.  I would love to hear the story of Jen in her younger years…all we know is that the girls were (most likely) fathered by two different musicians.  She has settled down since her groupie days and is the most hysterical class mom.

She is my inner spirit animal!!  There’s a reason I’m not on the PTA or volunteer to go into my kids’ classrooms…well, number one, work prevents me from volunteering during the day, but dealing with all the other parents!  The emails she writes to the families are HILARIOUS!  If you have a child in school, you will relate to this book.  If you are childless…you can still relate because it just deals with the topic of well…dealing with other people!

We touch upon the idea of flirtation and an affair with an old high school crush.  We navigate going through a time when she was misunderstood and gets the boot as the class mom.  There is no real story line, except for the mystery of a one parent that no one has met and the daughter has yet to be at school.  Oooooh, when that mystery is revealed it is a DOOZY!!!

I loved watching the friendships Jen has.  She has her best friend (President of the PTA) and even makes a frenemy.  It was just such a FUN read.  I flew through it because I couldn’t stop laughing!!!

5 star read.  When I can find my inner spirit animal in a book, it’s a 5 star read and I don’t care who agrees or doesn’t.  Just know that if you read this book, this would totally be me…sarcastic to the point of not caring, haha.  If you have read it, what did you think of it??

Top Ten Tuesday: September 17th #Drinks #Reading #Books

ttt-new

It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for another TTT courtesy of That Artsy Reader Girl! This week’s topic is…

Favorite Things To Eat/Drink While Reading

I can tell you right now I don’t eat when I read.  I need my hands focused on turning pages…plus, I don’t want to get anything on my pages or Kindle while I read!!  It just doesn’t work out too hot for me…haha.

CirkulCirkul…I just tried their $5 trial and I got hooked.  So did my kids!!  It’s a fun way to flavor your water where you control how much flavor you want!!  If you’re interested click here for more information.  You just fill up a bottle with regular water and then attach a “sip” filled with flavor to the top and well…sip!

coffee

Coffee…well, I brew a cup of fresh coffee, add a little bit of sugar, and 13 ice cubes (yes, I count them out, haha) and shake it all together.  My own version of Italian Coffee!  It is SOOO good, the perfect amount of sweet and bold goodness!

I wish I had more to add to this list, but that’s about it.  That is pretty much all I drink…it’s not that exciting.  Like I said, I don’t like my hands to be distracted when I’m reading, I need them available for immediate page turning!!  What do you like to eat or drink when you read?

Book Review: How To Keep A Secret @SarahMorgan_ @HarlequinBooks #Family #Secrets #MomsWhoRead #BookWorm #ReadMe #ChickLit

This is a book I came across on the Libby app through my local library.  I loved the cover…I am so glad I took a chance on this one!

HowToKeepASecret

Three generations come together in this one.  We have the grandmother, her two daughters, and her sole granddaughter.  Suddenly, her daughter (who is living in England) has her world turned upside down and she ends up back in her hometown of Martha’s Vineyard.

Each of these women have their own secret.  The only question is when they will all be revealed.  As living in the same area goes on, the closer they become and the more the secrets start to slide out on their own.  Of course, the first big reveal comes untimely, in the middle of a funeral.  Did that grab your attention?

This book tugged at my heartstrings.  There was so much growth in everyone.  It also made me happy because no matter how their relationship was at the end of the day, family was still there for one another.  It had the ever so gracious plot line of romance conjoined with family happenings; sometimes I was smiling and sometimes I was sad.  This book really pulled me in and had me rooting for everyone.

4.5 stars for me, rounded up to 5 on rating sites. I love a good chick lit book and this was a prime example of a GREAT one.  It wasn’t cheesy or overly romantic, it had an amazing balance of just life happenings.  If you’re looking for a great contemporary read, put this on your radar!

I discovered this meme on Jill’s Book Blog.  This meme is hosted by Midnight Book Girl.  It’s simple…today we discuss what book I’m reading!

MiracleCreek.jpg

I borrowed this from my local library and so far, it’s captivated me.  Everyone seems a little shady and guilty about the explosion, I’m trying to use my sense to figure it out…I hope to finish this one ASAP!!!  Have you read this one?  What are you reading today?

Top Of The TBR: September 14th #WantToRead #TBR #WishList #Reading #Books

I stumbled across this thanks to Literary Elephant.  I love this idea and I’m jumping on board!!  Here is her description of Top Of The TBR (TBR by the way, for those who may not know, means To Be Read)…

But what is Top of the TBR? Good question. It’s a weekly post that will showcase any new books I’ve added to my Goodreads TBR recently, with a short explanation of why each title caught my interest. I’ll aim for 5-10 books per post; in weeks that I’ve added more than that, I’ll hold some back, and in weeks that I don’t have enough, I’ll include titles I haven’t discussed yet. Each title will be linked back to its Goodreads page for anyone interested in exploring further, as I’m not a fan of copy/pasting synopses. Anyone who wants to take part in this series with me is absolutely welcome! Please link back to any of my Top of the TBR posts so I can see what you’re reading!

How I Heard About It: Bookstagram.

Why I Want To Read It: First off, I’m a huge seasonal reader.  I don’t have very much books in my possession for fall/winter reading.  I just finished a book by her and LOVED it, so, hence why it jumped on my list!

Priority: High.  I will probably own this book shortly after its upcoming release!

TheWomanUpstairs

How I Heard About It: Shalini

Why I Want To Read It: Click on the above link and read the review…then you’ll understand!

Priority: Medium.  It did just drop in price on Amazon from $2.99 to 99cents, so I may have to buy it.  I do have some credits from selecting no rush shipping off Amazon lately!!

I just decided to focus on the last 2 books I’ve added to my TBR list.  Have you read either??  Should I bite the bullet and get either of them right now??  What’s on your TBR list?

I hope you have a person like this…for me, it would be my husband and my best friend.  It is just an amazing feeling to know that I have their back and they have mine.

What quotes have stayed with you lately?

Book Review: Lock Every Door @riley_sager @DuttonBooks @Hendersonlibs #Thriller #PageTurner #TooGoodToBeTrue #Mystery #BookWorm #ReadMe

I requested a copy of Lock Every Door through my local library and was one of the first few patrons to hold this in my hands!  I love it when that happens!!  I just hope many more patrons after me choose to love this one too!  I was so excited to read this and get this back to the library for the next person’s turn, I didn’t even snap my own pic!!!!

LockEveryDoor

Jules is broke, jobless, heartbroken, and homeless.  Well, she’s crashing on her best friend’s couch while she tries to get her life together.  One day she comes across an ad for an apartment sitter and decides to answer it.  If anything it will get her out of her friend’s apartment and into her own space for a bit.

She ends up in one of the most exclusive apartment buildings in Manhattan.  It is also one of the most mysterious.  Jules finds out she will get $1,000 every week just for living there.  There are some weird rules she needs to follow (no talking to residents, absolutely no visitors, and you must spend every night in the apartment), but for the money, she’s happy to oblige.

Rumors swirl around this building…from disappearances to mysterious deaths.  Her best friend isn’t too keen on her staying here and keeps telling her she will lend her the money, to just leave, but Jules can’t do that.  Oh, what a heart pounding adventure we go on.

I couldn’t fathom what was going on.  It was absolutely bizarre; however, plausible given that we are dealing with New York City elite.  That’s all I will let on and tell you there.  You will have to pick this one up and read it to find out what I mean.  It is a dark and creepy read.  I found myself a little creeped out reading it while I spent the weekend alone.  That’s what I get for reading by myself late at night!  Haha.

Phenomenal 4 star book.  It twisted and turned down a road that just appeared out of nowhere.  I mean…the mind of Riley Sager.  Wow.  Jules gives us something to hold on to as she is bound and determined to find out what is happening in the building she is living in.  Sager knows just how to twist you so you think one thing…but it’s really something else that is happening completely.  What are your thoughts on this one??

Book Review: Daisy Jones & The Six @tjenkinsreid #BallantineBooks @randomhouse @penguinrandom @hendersonlibs #RockNRoll #70s #Drugs #Party #Fiction

I checked this book out thanks to my local libary and it was so worth the wait on Overdrive!!  What a fast paced, fun read!

DaisyJones

This book is written SO well that I had to Google to see if Daisy Jones & The Six was an actual band (sadly, no, this is 100% a work of fiction that IS going to be a TV show!!!).  It’s written as if it is one big Rolling Stone article.  The author is doing interviews with Daisy Jones and the band members of The Six and essentially has transcribed everything they have told them.  We get a crazy story of who Daisy Jones was and how she became to be, along with how The Six went from just an ordinary band to a top of the charts band.

This book is filled with plenty of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll.  I felt for some of these characters.  I wanted to strangle some of these characters.  This book is written so vividly it was as if it was played out in my head just like a movie documentary.

I didn’t know what to think of the format at first, but it works.  I hear the audiobook version of this book is phenomenal and it has a different voice for each person.  That’s pretty freakin’ cool.  With the rise of every great band comes the fall…this book chronicles that for us.

Just remember, the book takes place in the 1970s.  I wasn’t alive back then, but I felt like everything was era appropriate.  We also get to see what they’re doing now in present time as the book winds down.

4 star read.  It’s a quick read and a fun one.  Touring with a rock ‘n roll band can be crazy…and this book has some stories to tell.  Reid writes this book absolutely flawlessly.  It is sure to be enjoyed by many!!  Have you read this one?  What did you think about it?
