Book Review: 29 Seconds @TMLoganAuthor @Netgalley @bonnierbooks_uk #Thriller #Suspense #LifeChanging

Thank you to Netgalley for my advance reader copy of 29 Seconds in exchange for my honest review!  This book is scheduled to be released TOMORROW, September 10, 2019 (in the US…yes, UK readers this has been out for you for a year now you lucky ducks)!

29Seconds

29 Seconds changes Sarah’s life.  She’s a kinda single mom (her husband has ran off to find himself…with another woman) with 2 small children balancing her career and home life.  Her father is around to help her out at the drop of a hat and she couldn’t make it without him.  Her work life…

Her boss is an @$$hat.  She’s trying to make it as a permanent employee at the university she works at.  The only way she can guarantee herself to climb up the ladder is to get into her boss’ pants.  Yeah, he’s that kind of scum bag.

This books hits us with a little bit of drama as she witnesses a little girl almost get kidnapped.  What unravels after that will have you savoring every page of this book.  It becomes an unstoppable ride that will have your heart pounding until you know the outcome.

This kept me on the edge of my seat.  There was a lot of suspense built up.  Plans were drawn up and failed.  What was going to happen?!?  I can’t say much because I’ll give the whole book away.  I was pleasantly happy with the ending with finding out all that happens.  I felt the ending was a tad bit rushed, but it didn’t take away from the story.

Solid 4 star read.  There’s no doubt that this is a well written thriller.  It kept you in suspense and had you trying to figure out the mystery of everything.  It was such a clever plan…there’s no way you could guess it unless you have psychic powers.  If you did read this and you guessed how everything unfolded, you’re lying…and guide me to the winning lottery numbers, haha.  Great thriller to put on your bookshelf tomorrow!

Book Review: Looking For Alaksa #JohnGreen #YA #YoundAdult #MomsWhoRead #BookWorm

This was the August book of the month for the Facebook book club I’m in.

LookingForAlaksaMINE

*sigh* I really wanted to love this book.  I have read The Fault In Our Stars by John Green, but this book just didn’t have the same oofmp as that one.  I was let down to say the least.

Our protagonist, to me, is an egotistical, whiny brat.  He goes off to a private boarding school a few hours away from home and makes a new set of friends.  They do your typical high school things and do their best to stay out of trouble.  The refreshing part about this book is that these kids are actually focused on their education and want to get into good schools.

This is a John Green book, which means life isn’t fair and suddenly the whole book takes a dramatic turn.  We have a before the dramatic event part to the books and an after part to this book.  I thought there could have been a little more added for an insightful look at our true selves, but there wasn’t.  Just more whining in the after.

This is going to be made into a television show.  I will totally give this show a watch because I think they could do some really awesome things with it.  It’s not that often that one suspects a tv or movie adaption could be better than the book!  Who knows how it will turn out, but I will turn in to find out.

A meh 3 stars from me.  It was a short read at 221 pages, but sometimes it felt like the book was never going to end for me.  I’m super disappointed I didn’t love this book and rave about it like so many do.  Have you read this one?  What did you think about it?

Forget the Stars Tour Banner

I would like to give a HUGE shout out to Kelsey Kingsley for the opportunity to read Forget The Stars before its release and then allowing me a spot on the blog tour!!  I am ECSTATIC to share this amazing book I devoured in a day with you all!  WELCOME!

Copy of FTSteaser1.png

This book features the story of guitarist Chad (Chaddington Bear) Wilcox, member of Devin O’Leary’s band (see also Daisies & Devin and Book Review: Tell Me Goodnight).  Don’t worry, this is a standalone book!  It just features a character that has been written about in the two forementioned books, but this is all his story.  If you haven’t read any of Kelsey’s other books you won’t be lost (but you’ll want to read them all after this one)!

He ends up back at home with his parents (I love a modest rock star) during a touring break and happens to be reacquainted with his best friend, Molly.  He has been dating a woman for years who won’t commit and no one really cares for her.  Chad happens to discover in this book that he has been living with Ulcerative colitis and it’s Molly who ends up being there for him…

Copy of FTSteaser2.png

What I loved most about this story is we see Chad really come in to his own.  I laughed at him, cursed at him, and cried for him.  Gah, all the emotions!  Molly also comes in to her own and instead of just floating through life one bad roommate after the other, we see her do what is she is passionate about.  All while Chad and Molly’s mothers are conspiring behind the scenes for them to get together.

This is a sweet love story that I couldn’t put down.  I knew better than to start it when I was in bed because I stayed up well past my bedtime to finish the story.  Just when I think I can’t love 2 characters more, Kelsey hits it out of the park and I fall madly in love with 2 more.  If you love a swooning, slow burning romance, this book is for you.

It’s a 4.5 star knock out for me (rounded up to 5 on rating sites).  I love a book that I can get lost in and become obsessed with and forget the world around me for a few hours and this book delivers just that.  Sometimes I just want to focus on a swoony story while I laugh and shed a tear and this delivered just that.  I highly recommend you grab this book as soon as possible, you won’t regret that you do!

From August 26 to September 26, 2019, 10% of all proceeds will be donated to the
Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation! Buy it here on Amazon!

Book Review: Pretty Guilty Women @Gina_LaManna @Sourcebooks #ARC #Thriller #Mystery #BookWorm #MomsWhoRead #ReadMe #PageTurner

Thank you to Sourcebooks for my advance reader copy of Pretty Guilty Women in exchange for my honest review!  This book is scheduled to be released TOMORROW, September 3, 2019!

PrettyGuiltyWomenMine

Pretty Guilty Women is the story of 4 old college friends who stopped talking to each other.  One of the girls is getting married and decides to get the gang back together despite everyone not talking for years (I mean, one of the girls did make out with another girl’s boyfriend so, there’s reasons why they don’t all talk).  They all meet up at this lavish resort and spa and get along as best they can.  Someone ends up murdered…four women end up confessing they did it…what is going on?

Right away we know someone is murdered because the book opens up with the detective questioning one of the women.  It alternates between the police questioning and the past week everyone spent at the resort and spa.  The story is told from the perspective of Emily, Kate, Lulu, and Ginger.  They are all old college friends except for Lulu, she’s a relative attending the wedding that the girls meet at the bar.  Whitney, the bride, is the reason why all the girls are together and hanging out at the hotel, but is too busy with wedding preparations to hang out.

Talk about suspense.  So we know that someone is killed.  We have a small sneak peek at who it possibly could be in the prologue; however, it’s so vague it leaves your brain racking all of the possibilities.  I. Never. Saw. It. Coming.

Just when you think you have it all figured out…you don’t.  There’s enough twisting and turning from the police questioning to the girls’ time at the resort that you can’t help but just sit there and keep turning the page.  This book became an addiction for me.  I kept wanting more.  I carried this book around with me until I finished it because if I found myself with even 2 minutes to spare, I had my nose in the book.

This was such a creatively written book, 5 stars from me.  Yeah, 5 stars.  Why?  It kept me craving more.  The ending…you know I’m a stickler…there’s a one year later AND epilogue.  It’s like a double bonus…I see what happens over the course of a year after the event takes place AND I get more…it’s my dream ending for EVERY book.  I can say that this book satisfied everything and more.  I closed the book feeling complete.  You will not regret picking this book up…good thing it’s released tomorrow so you can get your hands on it quickly!!

Amazon & The Kindle: Part 6 Your Local Library & Your Kindle #Overdrive #Libby #Library #Hoopla #Ebook #Digital #Kindle

😦  Here are we are to Part 6 of my Amazon & The Kindle series!  This is my LAST one in this informational series!!!!  I hope you have learned a new thing or two with your Kindle device!  This week we are focusing on…if you reside outside of the United States, please read on because there ARE options for you too!!

Your Local Library & Your Kindle

SupportLocalLibrary

Here is where having a Kindle and a library card can become DANGEROUS.  The first thing you need to do is get yourself a local library card.  Consult with your local library and see what services are offered through them.  Each library district is different with what they offer, I will be going over the most popular options and what exactly they are.  Bottom line, they are SIMPLE to use with your Kindle!!  Even my 80+ year old grandmother can check out library books to her Kindle!

*Let me interject here.  Some library districts are small and do not offer a lot.  I am going to highlight a few public libraries that you can buy a yearly membership to.  Some people like to go with these libraries regardless because they have a much bigger library to choose from.  I am lucky enough to have 2 library districts in my area that I am a member of and I have found what my smaller district does not have available in an ebook format, the larger one does.  Check with your local library first and see if they have any reciprocal or sister libraries you are eligible to borrow from too!  These are just a few options…

Orange County Library System (Florida) 3 months $75, 6 months $100, 1 year $125 (They allow membership to lose who live OUTSIDE of the United States as well!)

Brooklyn Public Library (New York) 1 year $50

Free Library Of Philadelphia  1 year $50 (They also allow membership to those who live OUTSIDE of the United States as well!)

Fairfax County Library (Virginia) 1 year $27

Check this blog out for even more options!

**Side note…I would love to have the ability to borrow from a library in England/Europe/Overseas (because you guys get a lot of books over there first that I want to read) so if anyone knows of any libraries like these, PLEASE reach out and let me know!

Let’s move on to the actual ways you will borrow from the library now…my favorite…

OverdriveLibby

Overdrive is one of the main borrowing systems libraries use for ebooks.  They have a website and app you can use and your local library usually has a link set up on their website to their Overdrive library.  From there you can browse around.  You will use your library card and password to log in to Overdrive so make sure all of that is set up with your local library first!  Now…Overdrive has an app, but I don’t find it to be user friendly.  The also have Libby (presented by Overdrive) which is SUPER easy to use!  You can download it to your device and log in with your library credentials.  I have 2 libraries connected to my account and bounce back and forth between them.

On one side of the app is your shelf, which shows what you have borrowed and you can look at your holds shelf for what you have coming.  On the other side is the library side where you can search and find ebooks and audiobooks.  The audiobooks read right through the app, it’s easy and magical.  This is what I showed my grandmother to use and guys…she doesn’t need ANY help to navigate it.  That’s how easy it is!!!! Here is a quick look at the inside of my account just so you can see how pretty it looks…

LibbyInside.jpg

Once you have a library book checked out to you, you will click on it and it will take you right to the Amazon website where you can check out the book to borrow.  Most libraries let you choose how long you want the hold for (7 days, 14 days, 21 days) so make sure you pay attention to that detail!  Once your hold is up the ebook will automatically go back to the library, no late fees!!  I do check my books back in early through Libby and AGAIN through Amazon (I go to www.amazon.com/myk and select the book and click on return, sometimes the book won’t go back to your library early unless you do this, you’ll get a note on your Kindle with the book saying return ended and you can just delete that off your Kindle and it’s off for good).  Just a helpful tip for returning through Overdrive!

Next there’s Hoopla…

Hoopla

Hoopla’s biggest perk?  There’s NO waiting period (unlike with Overdrive and the more popular books)…everything that is available in the library is available to you IMMEDIATELY.  The selection is not as big with the latest releases, but you can borrow so much MORE through Hoopla…the Hoopla app is available on iOS, Android, AND the Amazon app store.  You can access it via Chromecast, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, and Android TV.  Why would you need all that?

Because you can borrow ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, comics, and television!!  WOW!  My local library allows me to borrow 8 items a month.  The only downside is everything is done through the app so I can’t take the ebook I borrow and read it on my Kindle Paperwhite, I have to read it on a device that has the Hoopla app on it (it would work on the Kindle Fire tablet).  They even have a kids area to the app (which my kids LOVE) to explore.  They enjoy checking out movies and shows…just be careful of your library’s limit!!!  Even if you return items, you are only allowed that amount to be checked out each month!

That’s really all I wanted to highlight as those are the 2 most popular eborrowing tools with public libraries.  Check with your local library to see what they have to offer.  My local library also offers extra services such as a free membership to Creativebug and the children’s learning program Socrates.  Support your local library!!  Please let me know if you have any other questions about any eborrowing abilities or if your library has a really neat feature.

I hope this series has helped you unlock the potential in your Kindle.  To recap all the series posts…

Book Review: One Night Gone @TaraLWrites @GraydonHouse @HarperCollins @Netgalley #5stars #Thriller #ReadMe #Suspense #BookWorm #Bibliophile

Thank you to Netgalley and Graydon House books for my advance reader copy of One Night Gone!  This book is scheduled to be released on October 1, 2019!  Fair warning, you are about to see this book pop up everywhere because it is a crazy good thriller!!!

OneNightGone

Enter Maureen circa 1980s.  She stumbles in to Opal Beach looking for something fresh in her life.  She works at the local carnival until the creep who runs it pushes the line too far.  She ends up staying with a friend she made over the summer until she suddenly just disappears…

We meet Allison, present day, who is going through a rough patch in her life…recently divorced and fired from her job (for telling her husband off on the air, she was a meteorologist) she has been staying with her sister in her small apartment.  Her sister finds her the opportunity to house sit a gorgeous beach house during the off season as its owners need to go overseas last minute.  She reluctantly takes the opportunity and it just may be the fresh start that she so desperately needs.

Allison starts to make friends with the locals.  When she befriends a local she hears all about Maureen and starts to wonder if she didn’t just leave town and something happened to her instead…

The book goes back and forth from Maureen’s time at Opal Beach to the present day with Allison.  Just when you think you have it all figured out…think again.  What a crazy, crazy ride we go on.  This book sucked me in and left me turning the pages as fast as I could.  I did not see the ending coming!!

This is getting a 5 star read from me for the shocking ending.  There is a LOT going on at the end and we find out what has happened to everyone and who did what.  Without giving too much away, things start to happen to Allison at the house and well…you’ll see.  I felt it had a huge climatic peak and then everything tumbled in to place afterward.  I wish I could have predicted it…but I didn’t see it coming.  Pre-order this book now!!
