Book Review: The Perfect Wife #JPDelaney @randomhouse @Netgalley

Thank you to Netgalley and Random House for access to this book in exchange for my honest review.  I have previously read one of Delaney’s works before and I was excited for the opportunity to get my hands on an advance copy of this one!

Robots.  This book revolves around robots and a husband’s infatuation with his wife.  The book isn’t techie or sci-fi in any way, it just is based around a man who runs a tech company and is trying to build cobots; realistic robots that can help us out emotionally.  I actually appreciated how this was written so I could follow along with everything…there’s no jargon or anything like that.

Someone is a psycho.  I won’t say who…it might even be more than one person.  This book has some crazy twists and turns.  The husband’s wife is missing and has been missing for five years.  He recreates her in cobot form and it’s bizarre.  She actually has her own thoughts and feelings.  It was interesting!

The book is told from two points of view.  We see what is happening through Abby, the cobot version of the wife, and from the office perspective.  There isn’t really a narrator for the office perspective, but this gives us background as when we read from this point of view, it is typically from the past.  It was very unique and I really liked this approach!  It added to the mystery and suspense of what was going on.  It was like we were peeking inside the office when certain things happened!

This ending.  I still have no idea what really happened at the end.  It was muddled for me.  I think I have a grip of what happened, but it’s still very confusing for me.  It doesn’t help when there are actual people and then robots of the people floating around.  If you have read this and have a solid understanding of what happened at the end, let me know.  It just doesn’t make sense; it was very confusing and I even re-read it three times.  Maybe it was just me and my scatter brain self who can’t figure it out, haha.

This book is being released on Tuesday, August 6th.  It is available for pre-order now!

Sunday Funday: Swagbucks @Swagbucks

I have debated about doing a post on Swagbucks and decided to just bite the bullet and go for it.  Before you read on just know I am not selling you anything, but if you do sign through my link I get some bonus points on my account once you start earning yourself.  Swagbucks is something I personally do in my spare time and have earned over $900 doing (over the course of years, don’t think I did that overnight, I signed up back in 2016 and have been doing it off and on when I get spare time).  I usually average $15-$20 a month when I put some effort in.

Swagbucks is a website where you can earn cash back from shopping (I just earned $8 cash back from my Old Navy back to school shopping, that’s $8 back just from clicking on the link to Old Navy from their website, so it’s kind like Ibotta too…in fact, I usually go between Swagbucks and Ibotta to see who has the higher cash back before I do any on-line shopping…if I’m spending the money anyway I might as well get something back for it).  You can also participate in surveys, watch videos, do their live trivia game, and do some deals to earn points.  Once you earn points you can cash them in for gift cards.

I usually cash out to PayPal and treat myself to something.  This is how I usually support my new Scensty obsession.  From time to time I will cash out for an Amazon gift card and keep it in my account for when I see a great deal…this also supports my, “this book is only 99 cents I have to have it even though I’ll probably never read it, but it’s only a dollar I must get it” habit I have.  Aaaaand that’s why I never feel guilty about buying the books because hey, it was free money, haha.

I am in a few Facebook groups where they post deals and tips and tricks to get the most out of using Swagbucks, they are really helpful.  If you’re interested sign up and then either contact me or shoot me a message and I can hook you up to the groups…they can better walk you through anything more than I can.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading through.  I always feel like I’m promoting a sketchy gimmick, but I love to share this site with others.  Some of my friends do it and I have one that has made over $1500 over her lifetime.  You can put a lot of work into it and you can put a little in.  Most of my earnings lately have been slow (VERY slow) and have only come with my on-line back to school shopping, but that’s money in my pocket that wouldn’t have been there in the first place.  If you click on any link in the post it will take you to my referral link for sign up and like I said, I’ll get pennies for it, but it’s more to maybe help someone else out with a book obsession and can offset a little bit of cost every now and then.  Barnes and Noble and Books A Million offer cash back through Swagbucks!!  Happy Swagging!!!  If you’re a fellow swaggernaut, how do you enjoy Swagbucks??

Top Of The TBR: July 20th #WantToRead #TBR

I stumbled across this thanks to Literary Elephant.  I love this idea and I’m jumping on board!!  Here is her description of Top Of The TBR (TBR by the way, for those who may not know, means To Be Read)…

But what is Top of the TBR? Good question. It’s a weekly post that will showcase any new books I’ve added to my Goodreads TBR recently, with a short explanation of why each title caught my interest. I’ll aim for 5-10 books per post; in weeks that I’ve added more than that, I’ll hold some back, and in weeks that I don’t have enough, I’ll include titles I haven’t discussed yet. Each title will be linked back to its Goodreads page for anyone interested in exploring further, as I’m not a fan of copy/pasting synopses. Anyone who wants to take part in this series with me is absolutely welcome! Please link back to any of my Top of the TBR posts so I can see what you’re reading!

Personally, my Goodreads TBR is filled with books that I have entered giveaways for.  My TRUE TBR list is on Amazon.  Here are the last 3 I added to my Amazon Wish List!

TheDarkestSummer

How I found it: Melanie’s Reads

Why I added it: “I love a good mystery and this has so many it sent me head into a spin.” – Melanie

Priority: Low. It sounds like an AMAZING read, but this is one that will probably stay on my list until my current shelf dwindles down some.

Goodreads

CrashingTheAList

How I found it: Novelgossip

Why I added it: I first found this through Novelgossip and her review blew me away.

Priority: Medium.  I am really considering cancelling a pre-order that Amazon is messing around on and just ordering this one!  It’s in my cart as we speak!

Goodreads

QueenOfKlutz

How I found it: *looks around* I don’t remember!!! I’m fairly certain I saw it in an ad.

Why I added it:  I need more light, fun reads in my TBR pile to break up all the serious thrillers.  I tend to read books like these fast and it’s nice to have a break between serious books!

Priority: Medium.  This is a book included with Prime Reading so when I next need a break between serious reads, this will be at the top of my list!

First Line Fridays: July 19th #TheGirlfriend @panmacmillan

As always First Line Friday comes courtesy of Hoarding Books Blog. I discovered this magic thanks to Crystal at Must Love Reviews. This week I am featuring The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances. Look for my review this coming Tuesday!

TheGirlfriend

I love my son. That was all that counted. It didn’t matter that she was about to do something heinous.

What book are you reading this week? Drop me a link to your First Reads Friday blog post and I’ll swing by! Happy Friday!

Thursday Quotables: July 18th #Horror @joe_hill #NOS4A2

Welcome to Thursday Quotables.  Books Kat Likes has joined in on the weekly fun and came up with this great description of what this is…

This feature is the place to highlight a great quote, line, or passage discovered during your reading each week. Whether it’s something funny, startling, gut-wrenching, or just really beautifully written, Thursday Quotables is where my favorite lines will be, and you’re invited to join in! Created by Lisa, over at Bookshelf Fantasies.

You should join in too!  Leave the link to your Thursday Quotable post below and I will make sure to check it out!!  Or just leave a comment with a quote from a book that has struck you!

Today I have chosen a line from NOS4A2.  This is actually the book we are reading this month in Katt’s Book Corner Facebook group. You can click on the link and join if you’re interested!  Each month we vote on a genre and then the book.  I have left links to both her blog and the Facebook group!  So far, they have been AH-MAY-ZING books!  Enough chit chat, my quote…

I don’t know. I kind of think…I kind of think it is our world. A version of it anyway. The version of it that Charlie Manx carries around in his head. Everyone lives in two worlds, right? There’s the physical world…but there’s also our own private inner worlds, the world of our thoughts. A world made of ideas instead of stuff. It’s just as real as our world, but it’s inside. It’s an inscape. Everyone has an inscape, and they all connect, too, in the same way New Hampshire connects to Vermont. And maybe some people can ride into that thought world if they have the right vehicle. A key. A car. A bike. Whatever.

You know…it’s true.  We have the physical world and the world as each perceive it.  Heavy stuff.

NOS4A2

Have you read this one?  I have been devouring it!  I can’t wait to finish this and then start on the series…I AM HOOKED!

Book Review: Lighthouse Beach @ShelleyNoble3 @WmMorrowBooks @Goodreads #SummerReading #SummerReads #Book #BookWorm

Thank you to Goodreads for a copy of this book!  Yes, I won this copy in a giveaway!  Woo hoo!  Keep entering, I’ve won a few now, you never know when it will be your turn!

LighthouseBeach

Lighthouse Beach: Life Will Never Be The Same.  This is on the sign when you come in to this little coastal beach town and it rings a sentiment so true for a newly formed group of friends.  Lillo Gray winds up at the wedding of an old camp friend that she has not seen in years.  The fact that she even went blows her mind…and she ends up leaving the wedding with the bride and her 2 college friends, never seeing the bride to her wedding vows.

Each girl carries baggage with her.  Not in the literal sense.  Lillo takes them away to her house and regrets it with every fiber in her body.  She isn’t set up for house guests and does not want to entertain them in the least.  This ends up being so good for her, and for each of the girls.

They form a tight bond you would think they have been friends for years.  It was amazing that this book takes place only over the course of a weeks’ time.  Each girl grows exponentially throughout this time.  They all needed a little Lighthouse Beach and it makes you feel so good at the end.

We all get by with a little help from our friends.  This is what I enjoyed most in this book.  Self-realization is important and sometimes you need a little nudge or two from your friends.  If you’re looking for a book where the characters grow and learn, this is the one for you.  It makes it more enjoyable with a beautiful Maine beach setting!  I just wish this was a real place so I could go visit!!!  I don’t think *I* would ever leave!

4 star read.  It is a bit of a stretch with the growth considering it all takes place within a week; however, remember this is a work of fiction and darn it, they can all grow this much because that’s how fiction works.  It was a little bit of a slow start for me, but once little hints started to be dropped about what everyone’s baggage was, I had to find out what background everyone had and what everyone was afraid of/hiding from/etc etc.  This is a perfect summer read!

Top Ten Tuesday: July 16th @teresadriscoll @elinhilderbrand #Authors #MustBuy

It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for another TTT courtesy of That Artsy Reader Girl! This week’s topic is…

Auto-Buy Authors

I don’t have that many auto-buy authors, but I do have a couple, yes, 2…I’ll feature their last book published (which yes I own…and yes, their next books coming out I already have on pre-order).

summerof69

Elin Hilderbrand

ThePromise

Teresa Driscoll

Not that exciting considering I only have 2 that I don’t blink an eye at thinking twice about. I love Hilderbrand’s writing style and Driscoll is a crazy good physiological thriller writer.

Who are your auto-buy authors??

Book Review: Belly Up @EvaDarrows @hillarymonahan @InkyardPress @HarlequinBooks @Netgalley #4stars #youngadult

Thank you to Netgalley and Inkyard Press for access to this book in exchange for my honest review.  I am a sucker for young adult novels.  I love them.  I don’t read them nearly enough.  When this book fell into my lap I was so excited!

Teen pregnancy.  This entire book is about a young teenage girl who makes one slight lapse in judgement and ends up pregnant.  This is her journey through her pregnancy with her friends and family.  She ends up moving a town away at the beginning of her pregnancy and probably was the best thing for her.

Understanding.  I hope as a parent I will be as loving and understanding as Sara’s mother.  Sara also has a supportive grandmother, Mormor, and the world’s greatest friends.  There’s even a little romance from Leaf thrown in here.  *sigh* There were such GREAT people in this one.

Snarky and laugh out loud funny.  With a topic as serious as teen pregnancy, this book manages to be a light, funny, and snarky read.  It is a lovely book to take your mind off of all the problems in the world.  It’s a quick read too!

There never was a lack of respect in this book.  Guys…sh#t happens.  Sara is still in high school and well…high school never ends so you know how kids (and people) can be.  It is important to remind yourself to surround yourself with respectful, solid friends.  I am so glad Sara manages to do that in this book.  Even though she is dealing with her life derailed from her ivy league college dreams, she changes her outlook and still remains positive.  This really was a feel good read, even with the heavy topic of teenage pregnancy.

4 star read.  This book made me glad I have the friends I do, who are just as supportive as Sara as they are of me.  It really made me feel good to know that in the real world, there are people like Sara’s friends and that’s important to remember.  Teenage pregnancy isn’t the end of the world (it’s not ideal I know), but this book serves as a reminder that no matter what you’re going through, things will get better and you can make it through.  Great young adult read!!  Go pick this one up now!

Sunday Funday: Sharing Kindle Titles

I want to thank Denise of Bookworm At The Gym for letting me in on this little hidden secret!  I never knew you could share your Kindle books with others until she let me know!!  HOW EXCITING!!!!!!!  It’s sooooo easy too!

www.amazon.com/myk

Once you go to the website above and log in it will take you to all of the devices you have linked to your Amazon account and your content.  To look at the ebooks you have select CONTENT next to Manage Your Content and Devices at the top of the screen.  Select the book you want by clicking on the 3 dot icon next to the title.  Once you’ve selected the ebook, select “Loan this title.”  **Not EVERY book will have this option!!**

LoanThisTitle

After you select “Loan this title” it will take you to a screen where you enter in their email address and you can even add a message.  The user does NOT need a Kindle device to read the book you send!  They get the loan for 14 days and it gets automatically returned to you!  While it is out on loan you will not have access to read it yourself so plan accordingly!

How neat is this?!?!  I can’t believe I never knew this!  I am working on a 6 part series with Amazon and the Kindle and all sorts of things you can do with it that many people have no idea about, I plan on starting it in 2 weeks and it will run weekly on Sundays.  Come back and check it out as I go over everything I know with the Kindle and Amazon.  If you have some tips and tricks with the Kindle, PLEASE, let me know!!!!

Happy sharing!!
